Tip #1: Make a habit of taking reusable items when you hike. This includes drinking equipment and food storage.
Tip #2: If you do take along disposable products, whether plastic, paper or cardboard or metal, always pack it out. Never leave it in the wilderness even if it is biodegradable.
Tip #3: When you do carry out disposable items, make sure you dispose of them properly. Make sure recyclable items go into to proper bins.
Tip #4: Keep a special area of your backpack ready for carrying out your trash and recyclables.
Tip #5: Pick up trash left by other hikers and pack it out. You’ll be a hero in your eyes whether anyone else knows about your good deed or not.
Tip #6: When you vacate a campsite in the wilderness, leave it cleaner than you found it.
Remember the ultimate environment tip for backpacking, camping and hiking: Pack it in; pack it out.
